Electo-riffic

well that was a bit gid eh! Guy I went to school with won one of the safest Lib-Dem seats(Roxburgh and Berwickshire) for the tories. Alex Salmond won Gordon (OK he was probably always going to, I mean who in their right mind would turn down the opportunity to have the possible first minister as your own MSP?).

The SNP won my own constituency of Abz North too. The ever annoying Nicola Sturgeon won Govan, which is great for the party, first Glaswegian SNP seat ever.

Annabel Goldie presented herself fantastically well through the evening/morning despite being unable to claim her own constituency in Renfrewshire.

I’m saddened that North Ayrshire can’t get over their Labour fixation, talk to anyone and they do nothing but complain about them, I think they all believe that a vote for anyone else is a wasted vote, they should have done what fitaloon did when he…

surprised myself by adding an extra vote on my council election slip by giving a 3 to the SNP candidate, it might just help ensure that Labour and the Lib Dems don’t get in.

Still, there’s no telling some folk. Highlight of the evening for myself…

I’m torn between the Arran boat breaking down with Cunninghame North’s papers on it and that Alex Salmond victory. I’m somehow squeezed in between him and Nicol Stephen in my constituency for power sharing, a fact I am sure should be of benefit to the region. I am actually in the Gordon constituency for Westminster elections as well, which sucks.

I suppose I should mention the farce that is the new voting electronics and possible fuck ups of the electorate. I almost spoilt my own council paper by putting an x instead of the 12345… only saving myself at the last second by rtfm-ing the paper. It was stupid imo to run both elections together while at the same time introducing the voters to a new, parallel system of voting. Maybe next time we’ll get it right. I’m sure this will have a negative effect on peoples perception of voting and the usefullness of voting. There will be people out there who know after all the hoo-haa that they unintentionally spoilt their ballot papers and will be put off by this. I hope it doesn’t show in the next turnout.

In the hard fought contest of the-kid.org the second vote went to the SNP with 4 votes(the 5th was me trying to turn the poll off!) over the Lib-Dems and Tories both having 3.

Now the wait for the list result…

I’d kind of forgotten that the North-East is now a power area with Alex and Nicol around us. I can’t see Jack Mcconnell lasting much longer, particularly after his performance on election night, though who they can find to replace him might be a bit tricky. Annabel will probably stay for the moment but to be honest whilst she did a reasonable job this year, I think they need someone younger and more dynamic to enable the Tories to regain their former place in Scottish politics, who that might be I’m not sure, perhaps one of the two new constituency MSP’s might qualify (John Lamont or Alex Fergusson).
