Making a VAIO CD bootable

I just spent the morning trawling through site after site looking for information on how to get a CD ROM visible as a boot device on Catty’s laptop, a Sony VAIO FPS115E, apparently. Everywhere reckons it can’t be done however….

Pressing F2 into the BIOS on start-up and navigating to the Boot tab gives us the options, something like floppy, optical,HD and network. CD ROM isn’t there, however, placing the hard disk as the last boot device(highlight the disk and press “-” until it’s at the bottom) then pressing the N key, then the D key, makes the system look for “devices not yet installed” or something.

This seems to make the CD bootable.

Now, I’m off to finish installing Linux on it…..
