Dammit

I accidentally turned off Akismet today or yesterday and was getting really annoyed at the amount of spam I was getting. It was mostly all held in moderation queue right enough.

Somehow though I’ve managed to delete a bunch of comments in the clean up and they seem to be gone forever

Sorry if yours was one that’s gone! If you need it get it from archive.org hehe

I’m so pretty

I’ve been given ‘the treatment’ by Meeester M of Misssy M hubbydom fame.

I’m pleased with the result although I think I did go thru the same emotions she did upon realisation that it’s not me at all. It’s the way I’d look if I exfoliated, had never smoked, had no kids, excercised more…

However it is me enough to be my new avatar. Thanks Meeester!

Shocking

I’m not the only person who gets static shocks in Tesco Daneston am I? Especially upstairs. The place drives me nuts man.

Aberdeen City Council - School Closures

So there was a leak to the Express or something about the school closures. Stoneywood is being kept open with the amalgamation of Bucksburn and Newhills at a new building on the Newhills site. Does this sound strangely familiar?

I wonder if the entire consultation period is just a paper exercise to fulfil a legal responsibility on behalf of Aberdeen City Council which actually holds no weight as their agenda is set. In fact, I’d go so far as to actually accuse the council of this.

I would of course love for all 3 schools to remain open but should one be facing the axe, the obvious amalgamation to me is that of Stoneywood and Bucksburn, on the Bucksburn or Bankhead sites. I can see no real reason to close Newhills or Bucksburn when they both serve the communities in which they lie. Stoneywood however has a massive out-of-zone percentage, remove those pupils and the school can’t remain open!

Now of course Stoneywood parents will have you believe that this should tell us what a good school Stoneywood is as so many out-of-zone parents choose this over their local schools, however I’d question the level of convenience for them en route to and from work. It’s no coincidence that it lies off one of the main roads into Aberdeen’s main industrial parks.

Now I’m sure Stoneywood is a very good school, don’t get me wrong on this point. It’s head teacher was previously depute at Bucksburn so I’m certain it’s in good hands. The fact remains though that it is not serving our community. When looking at closures surely you keep the facilities that actually DO constitute a benefit to the communities in which they reside and NOT ones which mainly serve other communities out with this area.

I do not have the figures but I seem to remember something like 60% of Stoneywood pupils are from out of zone. How is this a sustainable school when we are facing these difficult cuts?

Bucksburn School has long been one of the hearts of this community. If the school amalgamates with Newhills(which I am also not averse to by the way, I’m just more annoyed that Stoneywood click their fingers and Aberdeen City Council jumps with no apparent regard to what’s actually best for the Bucksburn community as a whole.

Consultations aren’t even due to end until September, wtf!

Yes, another dentist post.

I’ve finally managed to get registered with an NHS dentist in Aberdeen! Better than that I didn’t even have to hit a waiting list, I (Catty) just phoned them one day and they were like, yeah no problem! This could well be the week to put on that Euro-Millions ticket.

However as with all stories there’s a flip side. I went to said dentist, Polish guy who’s also the kids dentist so I already was familiar with him. I sat in the chair for like 3 minutes in total while he said words to his assistant like, 4 missing 5 composite eruption, and other technical dentisty words. I was then told to make 2 40 minute appointments with the receptionist and left. Luckily with it being an NHS dentist that checkup was free, woohoo. This was short lived though as they hit me with an estimate of treatment totalling £220.

I knew it would be high. For a lot of years I had very poor dental hygiene. Brushing twice a day was ignored in favour of, well, anything else. Hell brushing twice a week was a high volume.:sad:

Thankfully this has all changed as there’s only so much toothache you can go through before you realise, this isn’t helping. As well as vanity reasons. You don’t want to smile or talk to people when you have 4 teeth and they’re all yellow. Now I make sure I brush at least twice a day and I’ve even been staying away from the sugary stuff, who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

Anyhoo, I’m about to go under the knife again for these 40 minute appointments. there’s a list of extraction/filling/sealing on 12 teeth!

The thing with this story is that I’m not keen on the dentist. I never was scared or anything as a kid, but recently, I’m guessing since my visits have consisted mainly of emergency pain filled appointments, I’ve gone off them. The biggest problem is the needle for the anaesthetic. It’s huge! Like, really huge! I think they use tools first adopted in the 1800s and feel it’s ok to approach you with a thing that can only be described as an instrument of torture. I had a bunch of injections last year because of the junkies and those aren’t bad. Even the painful ones aren’t scary, they just hurt. Watching the dildo of doom aim it’s flesh bursting nose steadily towards your gums is scary man. It just is.

I’m thinking of having all my teeth taken out and replaced with a full set of dentures.:!: That way I’ll have a proper smile for the first time in about 15 years. I don’t want those partial dentures that go around your existing teeth because those have all moved out of place slightly because of the gaps. What do you reckon? I don’t mind having healthy teeth pulled for this as I think they are just ‘in the way’ anyhow.

Perhaps if I’d looked after my teeth eh…

bbiab

Catty’s decided that we need to leave Aberdeen for 2 weekshmmmm. See you soon. Do not burgle me! Thanks for watching, I’m billythekid…
