What are you on about I hear you ask. Well here’s the story…
I’ve been looking out for a Wii Fit for Catty and was watching a status site for availability. These things are ridiculously difficult to come by at RRP, however after a while on this site the alert comes up that Toys R Us had re-stocked. Brilliant!
So I navigate over to Toys R Us and sure enough there’s the Wii Fit in stock! So I quickly log-in(yes I have an account there already) and click to check-out. DENIED, between me putting it in the basket and checking out it’s gone out of stock.
I guess there’s more than me watching that site then, never mind, I’ll keep it in the basket so next alert I just hit submit, kapowie!
SO that’s what I do, alert -kapowie! DENIED! FUCK!
Repeat this until the error changes from “stock levels changed” to “error with your bank detail”
Huh, wtf?
Sure enough, the account in question…
Your account details
Account balance: £286.72 DR
Available balance: Nil
Overdraft limit: £400.00
So upon phoning the bank we’re told
No way you’re getting money from us idiot, that’s the point of debit cards, the money is reserved now for the retailer.
but of course I never actually paid anything out!
Toys R Us can help no better, it works like this, they check your card BEFORE they reserve your goods, checking the card reserves your cash! Am I the only one who thinks that’s a bit ass-backwards? What’s wrong with reserving the items(the bit they actually control) first, then checking your card, if the card fails the items can be released back into stock. Not the other way round.
I should sue someone, I’ve now got no money in the run up to Xmas until the 5-10 days it takes to automatically release.
Yet another reason to hate banks. Come on paypal, give us the debit card already, these fuckers are doing my nut in!
