The Politics Show featuring Wendy Alexander

I don’t know why I watch the politics show, every time I see Wendy Alexander I feel like ripping out my ears and eyes. When are the Labour party in Scotland going to realise they lost the election because of their negativity towards the SNP? There’s no way that the Labour party in Scotland can continue on this path and expect a rise in popularity.

It’s even filtered down to local level here in Aberdeen. Recently I’ve been to a few meetings with the council in my position on the school council of my kids’ school over the budget cuts and estates strategy. We held a meeting a while back, attended by fellow ABZ blogger and local councillor Mark McDonald(SNP) and Labour councillor Barney Crockett. We were looking for answers which, however unpopular, Mark was trying to give. Barney just wanted to dwell on the failures of the council, pointing the finger of blame on the SNP, and score political points.

WE DON’T WANT THIS!!!!

As far as I am concerned Labour can piss right off until they lose the chip from their shoulders and focus on the issues. They insist on this campaign of negativity and I for one am tired of it. We’ve had it for over a year now.

CHANGE THE FUCKING RECORD!!!!

Bucksburn Open Invitation

You are hereby invited to the meeting tonight at 7PM in Bucksburn School. Anyone with an interest in the provision of education in the Bucksburn community should attend or have representation there. There will be MPs and local councillors present to answer questions and hopefully set minds at ease with regards to budget cuts, future (housing) developments, how education is to be funded in future.

If you have kids in any of the schools feeding Bankhead (esp. Bucksburn, Newhills and Stoneywood) you are well advised to attend.

Oh, and there’s coffee…

You Pranger

I had a little get together with a fiesta this morning in Tesco’s car park. Result, Ford 1 Fiat 0.

Stupid bubbly-goggle-arsed Multipla took a direct hit to the rear light cluster.

Stupid scrappies at Overton said they don’t have one(light cluster) for me so I’m about to pillage the Astro for an amber bulb to get round the “no white light” rule until I get a new one off the interwebs.

Caurs eh, who’d ha’e them? :???:

ABZ bloggers save the planet!

Not only do I personally save the planet by downgrading the car as reported earlier, but a fellow blogger is doing their bit by freecycling their old kit. It’s cool to see a familiar nickname in the daily digest. You know who you are. I’ve been a freecycler for a wee while now and still haven’t gotten rid of anything, (I have given away stuff on Gumtree though, I’m not all bad!) small steps eh. I did help a lovely couple from the freecycle forums out one night with a lift with a bit of plywood. But that doesn’t count. I still need to find that first thing to give away I just got rid of my old Nokia(see here) so there, naaanaananaaanaa . Perhaps Catty’s laptop will find it’s way out the door soon, pain in the arse that it’s being at the moment…

I knew we were all nice people really! Keep up the good, umm, work, yeah!

Do What??

I was at a jobs fair the other day in the AECC with a mate. After we’d been headhunted (ok that didn’t happen) we checked out some of the jobs on the board. I wrote down the ones that most intrigued me and thought I’d share…

Title:- Temp HR Generalist

What I think that means:- A Temp HR Generalist is a very wide encompassing position…for a while. Companies need people who they can make do whatever they say without fear of “that’s not in my job description”. Generalists, especially temp generalists, fit this position. A temp Generalist has no clout in a company at all. An HR generalist is there just to make up the numbers in the HR department, I mean you couldn’t put a Generalist in charge of hiring and firing could you ?

Title:- Draughts Person

What I think that means:- Well, we all know what a draughtsperson does, but how about a draughts person(two words). Logically speaking this must be someone who does things with draughts. Perhaps they can play lengthy draughts games, or perhaps they just eat lots of curry/chilli…

Title:- West African Accountant

What I think that means:- I’m fairly sure this job title is against employment laws. You can’t normally dictate what nationality a future employee will be…

Title:- Document Advisor

What I think this means:- I have never worked in an office before but I’m fairly sure this is a made up job for tax reasons. Documents don’t need advice, they need filed.

Title:- Wealth Advisors

What I think this means:- The boy who runs to the bookies for the boss. Duties include advising the boss of any wins/losses and corresponding amounts. This title could also be a bank manager (which is basically the same job.)

In other news, as soon as we went in the door I was approached by none other than a representative of the council shoving a free pen in my hand and telling me to get on their website for a look at available jobs. Who knows, I might do that! HA!

NHS Dentistry

Yeah, another rant, I have made a mental note to bring a happier tone to the blog honest…

I have dozens of children(approx.), as you are no doubt aware, and one of my girls had toothache a few months ago. Off we went to the dentists who prescribed her some antibiotics for abcesses. She finished the course but the abcesses were still there and the toothache had returned. She had a regular checkup appointment anyhow so along we went ot it, where the Polish dentist told us she needed 4 fillings, ok we booked her appointments. She also got another appointment for later that week to have her abcesses drained.

This involves drilling through the tooth into the gum and letting the pus drain out, yummy! But they don’t fill teh tooth afterwards, it’s left open. So every time the kid eats anything she is in real pain as food gets stuck in the holes etc. Well anyway we get round to her filling appointments and the dentist says “Oh, those can’t be filled. They are only baby teeth anyway we can leave them open or extract”

What the fuck!!!! So my daughter had to go through 6 weeks of painful days only to lose the teeth anyway! So they pulled the teeth, there’s no way I was letting her continue in the pain as she had been.

Why couldn’t they have taken the teeth way back at the beginning, don’t say it’s anything to do with abcesses cause I’ve had a tooth pulled that was abcessed. They give you antibiotics to kill off infection. Also why couldn’t they give an appointment sooner than 6 weeks after the initial hole drilling? This is some kind of sick joke on the part of this dentist I think. Anyone ever had a kid with toothache to look after? It’s not a nice thing to go through. There’s nothing you can do for them except have loads of cuddles ready.

Now, part 2… The eldest kid had to go in for a filling(I know it sounds like we are a family of decay but it’s just coincidence it’s all happened at the same time!) She has issues with people prodding at her though. We once took her to the doctors to look at dome dry skin on her foot and she wouldn’t even let him see the skin, let alone touch it, brat. Anyhow, having forewarned the dentist of this(her appointment was later in the same day as the previous story) I was ready for a general or whatever. No we can’t do that she said after a half hour of trying to persuade the kid it’s not that sore getting a needle in the gum. (The younger kid was there telling her the same thing, to no avail.) So now we await an appointment at the hospital for her to be gassed and the work done. What a load of shite.

In Ayrshire & Arran you can pretty much walk in to any (Scottish) dentist and have whatever needs done, done (ok that’s not entirely true, you will probably need to register.) If you need gas you might need to get an appointment on a certain day as the dentists don’t have an anaesthetist in every practise. The service is so much better though in the west than in Aberdeen. Private dentisty practise is almost unheard of.

There is more to Aberdeen than the floundering and inept NHS though so I won’t be heading back to Ayrshire in too much of a hurry!

Back To School

What a pain in the arse this back to school shopping is.

What’s wrong with the bags they had last year?

How come I can’t get a new jacket?

Are you sure she’s not just getting them because they have flashing lights in the soles?

…and so on. It’s mental in town at the moment. Akin to the Christmas rush I think. On top of the stress of being in town with mentalist parents everywhere my car is off the road at the moment waiting on stuff from the states so we were BUSSING it! Gawdalmighty! That’s an effin nightmare. Ashley is 1 now so she just wants to be walking everywhere on her own, and no way will she sit at peace on the bus. Lucked out on the way in as she slept in her buggy - oh there’s another nightmare, First Aberdeen have decided to only let on one buggy at a time unless you fold it up. What a pain in the arse that is. It’s ok if she’s awake since she doesn’t want to sit in the buggy anyhow. If she’s asleep you’re screwed, depending on where you are getting on. At this end we are probably OK since the nearest stop is at the end of the line so you can be the first buggy on, but from town it’s not the end of the line. I could be waiting on busses for an hour. I don’t mind but there is enough room on them for two, sometimes three buggies if they aren’t too busy. There’s another thing, no matter how many people are on a bus the driver will stop at any stop for more! WTF!!! Dude, full means there’s no more space!

I think I saw Jayne today too, wearing a brown coat she walked past the bus I was on in Loch Street.

Catty is on Call Out for her work too. Hasn’t had a call all week so far, guess when it rang… when we were in town! EUGHHHHH! Standing about while she tries to fix an oil rig from memory doesn’t work out too well for me! lol

Another disaster…. Had to pick up Billie-Jo from a party today, was told, Art Gallery 2:30. No problem get there at 2-ish, hang about ’til 2:30 but nobody else turns up, no other parents or anything. Bollocks, this is the art centre. Quick dash to the right place and we got her, only a few minutes late but still feeling like idiots!

Roll on next week.

More Legalities

I’ve been called for jury duty at the high court. That rocks. I can’t wait for it, I’ve been eager to do it since turning 18. I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s feeling that I am contributing somehow, dunno.

In other news… the insurance company got back to me about the bump at the Haudagain Roundabout. They decided on a 50-50 split since “neither party had an independent witness.” I wonder what happened to Barry’s :?: I guess he wasn’t as independent as he made out. Or maybe the fact I told them about the cameras cancelled his witness out. Either way I’m reasonably happy with that outcome, since he didnt get away with the blatant lies. Must be karma.

I’ve also started on BlogShares. This game kicks ass. I own all the blogs on ABZ, well, some of them. I’m a billionaire and I’ve only been playing for a couple of weeks! Go there, claim your blog and get started!

Also I found the theme chooser thing so it’s at the top of the sidebar in each theme i’ve installed, have fun! (I quite like the ultraviolet theme)
