Hallowe’en

It’s great isn’t it? I’ve spent parts of the last week working on the kids costumes. Billie-Jo is gonna be a snooker table, Danielle is Marge Simpson, Jordan is a Leprechaun. Can you see a theme? No? They are all green.

In a related story our living room curtains no longer drag on the floor.

Not again.

She’s gone out for the day with her friend and I am babysitting (that’s 6 kids in total!) I suppose it’s just as well they are here or I’d be lost again. I was also left an instruction! Woohoo. The washing is now ON though so I find myself with free-ish time(the kids aren’t crying yet and playing happily out the back door.)

I was going to hit blogshares but their database is broken. I was going to update my mp3 dooda but can’t really get into the mood. Oh well, I suppose I’ll go beat a child at some game or other.

Life’s hard isn’t it!

NHS Dentistry

Yeah, another rant, I have made a mental note to bring a happier tone to the blog honest…

I have dozens of children(approx.), as you are no doubt aware, and one of my girls had toothache a few months ago. Off we went to the dentists who prescribed her some antibiotics for abcesses. She finished the course but the abcesses were still there and the toothache had returned. She had a regular checkup appointment anyhow so along we went ot it, where the Polish dentist told us she needed 4 fillings, ok we booked her appointments. She also got another appointment for later that week to have her abcesses drained.

This involves drilling through the tooth into the gum and letting the pus drain out, yummy! But they don’t fill teh tooth afterwards, it’s left open. So every time the kid eats anything she is in real pain as food gets stuck in the holes etc. Well anyway we get round to her filling appointments and the dentist says “Oh, those can’t be filled. They are only baby teeth anyway we can leave them open or extract”

What the fuck!!!! So my daughter had to go through 6 weeks of painful days only to lose the teeth anyway! So they pulled the teeth, there’s no way I was letting her continue in the pain as she had been.

Why couldn’t they have taken the teeth way back at the beginning, don’t say it’s anything to do with abcesses cause I’ve had a tooth pulled that was abcessed. They give you antibiotics to kill off infection. Also why couldn’t they give an appointment sooner than 6 weeks after the initial hole drilling? This is some kind of sick joke on the part of this dentist I think. Anyone ever had a kid with toothache to look after? It’s not a nice thing to go through. There’s nothing you can do for them except have loads of cuddles ready.

Now, part 2… The eldest kid had to go in for a filling(I know it sounds like we are a family of decay but it’s just coincidence it’s all happened at the same time!) She has issues with people prodding at her though. We once took her to the doctors to look at dome dry skin on her foot and she wouldn’t even let him see the skin, let alone touch it, brat. Anyhow, having forewarned the dentist of this(her appointment was later in the same day as the previous story) I was ready for a general or whatever. No we can’t do that she said after a half hour of trying to persuade the kid it’s not that sore getting a needle in the gum. (The younger kid was there telling her the same thing, to no avail.) So now we await an appointment at the hospital for her to be gassed and the work done. What a load of shite.

In Ayrshire & Arran you can pretty much walk in to any (Scottish) dentist and have whatever needs done, done (ok that’s not entirely true, you will probably need to register.) If you need gas you might need to get an appointment on a certain day as the dentists don’t have an anaesthetist in every practise. The service is so much better though in the west than in Aberdeen. Private dentisty practise is almost unheard of.

There is more to Aberdeen than the floundering and inept NHS though so I won’t be heading back to Ayrshire in too much of a hurry!

Back To School

What a pain in the arse this back to school shopping is.

What’s wrong with the bags they had last year?

How come I can’t get a new jacket?

Are you sure she’s not just getting them because they have flashing lights in the soles?

…and so on. It’s mental in town at the moment. Akin to the Christmas rush I think. On top of the stress of being in town with mentalist parents everywhere my car is off the road at the moment waiting on stuff from the states so we were BUSSING it! Gawdalmighty! That’s an effin nightmare. Ashley is 1 now so she just wants to be walking everywhere on her own, and no way will she sit at peace on the bus. Lucked out on the way in as she slept in her buggy - oh there’s another nightmare, First Aberdeen have decided to only let on one buggy at a time unless you fold it up. What a pain in the arse that is. It’s ok if she’s awake since she doesn’t want to sit in the buggy anyhow. If she’s asleep you’re screwed, depending on where you are getting on. At this end we are probably OK since the nearest stop is at the end of the line so you can be the first buggy on, but from town it’s not the end of the line. I could be waiting on busses for an hour. I don’t mind but there is enough room on them for two, sometimes three buggies if they aren’t too busy. There’s another thing, no matter how many people are on a bus the driver will stop at any stop for more! WTF!!! Dude, full means there’s no more space!

I think I saw Jayne today too, wearing a brown coat she walked past the bus I was on in Loch Street.

Catty is on Call Out for her work too. Hasn’t had a call all week so far, guess when it rang… when we were in town! EUGHHHHH! Standing about while she tries to fix an oil rig from memory doesn’t work out too well for me! lol

Another disaster…. Had to pick up Billie-Jo from a party today, was told, Art Gallery 2:30. No problem get there at 2-ish, hang about ’til 2:30 but nobody else turns up, no other parents or anything. Bollocks, this is the art centre. Quick dash to the right place and we got her, only a few minutes late but still feeling like idiots!

Roll on next week.

Strawberry Custard

What you need…

  • Microwave - 1
  • Cornflour - 4tbsp
  • Strawberry Nesquik Powder - 4tbsp
  • Sugar - 2tbsp
  • Milk - 1½ pints

Throw all the dry ingredients together into a microwaveable bowl, quite a big one.

Take a little off the milk and mix it into the bowl to form a smoooooooothe paste, about 4tbsp of milk or thereabouts.

Bang the rest of the milk into the bowl, give it a quick stir, don’t worry about the gloopy pink goo thats around the bottom, it’ll melt off.

Fire the lot into the microwave for about 7 minutes or so, stirring after about 4.

Stir it up for a few seconds and let it stand for a minute.

Serve.

Superb!

Holidays

Great, I’m on holiday as from today, not back until Tuesday week. Only cost 4 days too since there are 3 public holidays (today, monday and monday week) included in it.

I have my medical in Glasgow next Friday for the LGV license so will probably head down to Ayrshire for a few days to catch up with the family and do that. I also have a house to sell in Kilwinning since it’s holding us back from moving on up here. Trouble is my sister is living in it.

She has had a long time to get round to buying it from me though and I feel I have been more than fair in letting it drag on for so long. If she still wants it she can put in an offer. It’s not right that she gets to live in a big house with her one kid for nothing when my own three kids need to share a bedroom in this tiny rented cottage. Time to move on up here and, well, we all know what prices in these parts are like. So I need to sell the house in Kilwinkie and use the proceeds to pay off my mum(who has been paying the mortgage on the house down the road as far as I know. I don’t want her to be out of pocket after all because she gains nothing from these payments, just my sister gets to live in my house!) and have a deposit for a house up here. Least that’s the plan. :???:

My sister wont be thrown out on the streets either, she could walk straight into North Ayrshire council’s offices and be in accomodation that day. It’s not like she hasn’t lived in a council house before. I think it more likely that she will throw her toys out the pram and spit and hiss until someone closer to home takes her in.

Ah bollocks to it, time to make some easter activities with the kids…

Objects in mirror are closer than they appear…

…which explains how Billie-Jo walked into said mirror.

If it’s no wan hing it’s another…

Following from and in continuance to the recent spate of health related bloggings I got a call at work today from catty.
“Billy, the childminder phoned, she was at the toddler group with Ash and was dealing with one of the kids while Ash was strapped into her buggy when one of the other mums shouted her. A kid had climbed up onto Ash’s buggy and bit her on the head. Just phoning you so you don’t get a shock when you pick her up. I don’t know how bad the bites are…”

Now, to understand how this made me rage you need to get this. Ashley is possibly the single happiest child ever seen. She is constantly smiling, I mean constantly. If she sees you you are greeted with a huge beaming grin! It’s very charismatic. She is always so happy. [/Doting Dad]

Anyhow, I’m not angry with the childminder, these things happen when you have kids in your care. I have four kids of my own and I know how easy it is for slips to happen. I’m not really angry with the kid either. It’s the kids parents/carers who are to blame for not letting their little bastard learn right from wrong. The phrase “he’s done that to his cousin before” was uttered. *Calming thoughts*

Anyhow, shock at this….

Ash’s Bitemarks 1Ash’s Bitemarks 2Ash’s Bitemarks 3Ash’s Bitemarks 4Ash’s Bitemarks 5Ash’s Bitemarks 6

That’s some assault dont ya think? She’s so happy and trusting to see a kid coming to “play” would have made her excited. Then he did that. Little git. Still, Ash seems to have slept it off and is just as happy this evening.

Thing is, only last week she fell against the tiled hearth and had one god almighty bruise on her napper. Got x-rays taken and everything. I gained ten years. Now she has these head wounds. If we were to get a visit from social services we’d no doubt be placed on some order or other!

Poor kid, still, what doesn’t kill you…
